ResMed AirFit P10 vs. AirFit P30i vs. F&P Brevida – which CPAP nasal pillow mask is the best choice for you?

A restorative night’s sleep starts with the right CPAP mask. But which mask is the right one? We’ve put our customers’ three most popular nasal pillow masks to the test and put together a comparison for you: ResMed AirFit P10, ResMed AirFit P30i and Fisher & Paykel Brevida.

We assess these three masks based on six key criteria that are particularly important to our customers both in terms of buying the mask and using it. Find out which model is the best fit for your individual requirements.

Assessment criterion 1: comfort & fit

The most important factor when buying a CPAP mask is that it fits well and comfortably without causing pressure points. This is why our first assessment criterion in this comparison is comfort & fit.

• The ResMed AirFit P10 is extremely lightweight (approx. 45 g) and is available in sizes S, M and L. It fits most patients well, and is very comfortable. However, the nasal plug design means that the air flow is highly focused, which can dry out sensitive noses.

• The ResMed AirFit P30i is available in two frame sizes (standard and small), and comes with mask cushions in S and M. The size L has to be ordered separately. It also fits well, although the air flow in the hollow frame may be irritating to people with noise sensitivity, particularly those with tinnitus.

• The F&P Brevida comes with a trial set containing the mask cushions in XS/S and M/L and covering all sizes. It also features an AirPillow™ cushion that inflates like a pair of bellows. It’s smooth and soft, but it does have more contact with the skin.

All three masks are very comfortable. There’s not much between them in this regard, which is also reflected in the user reviews.

Assessment criterion 2: Seal & leaks

Based on our customer service experience, leaks are one of the most common criticisms when it comes to CPAP masks.

• The AirFit P10 and AirFit P30i use a dual-wall technology with air cushion. This is a tried-and-tested technology, but there are minor weaknesses in the AirFit P10 with high pressures of over 15 cmH₂O. The head strap of the AirFit P10 is very flexible and the strap length is easy to adjust. The AirFit P30i offers a significantly lower level of flexibility.
• The Brevida, on the other hand, uses an air cushion principle. The cushion inflates and fully covers the nose. The head strap, however, has a rather rigid fit and can only be adjusted using a Velcro fastening.

The AirFit P10 offers the highest level of flexibility, followed by the AirFit P30i. The Brevida has an impressive seal, but performs worse in terms of the adjustability of the head strap.

Assessment criterion 3: Mask type & design features

What makes the masks special and what makes them stand out from others?

• The AirFit P10 has a minimalist design, is very lightweight and has a front hose connection. It is a particularly suitable option for people who wear glasses or like to read.
• The AirFit P30i guides the hose from above (over the head), which offers a high freedom of movement. It is ideal for active users and people who sleep on their side. A quick-release elbow makes it easy to remove the hose.
• The Brevida uses an AirPillow™ design for a smooth seal. VisiBlue™ markings make it easy to use, and a washable diffuser reduces noise and blowing air.

The AirFit P10 is ideal for minimalists, the AirFit P30i offers maximum freedom of movement and the Brevida stands out for user-friendliness and a particularly smooth seal.

Assessment criterion 4:  Skin irritation & pressure

Wearing masks for extended periods can lead to skin irritation and pressure points – a common problem that can impact comfort and skin health.

• The AirFit P10 and AirFit P30i have limited contact with the face, so causes fewer welts or sores. It can, however, cause irritations due to the direct contact with the nostrils.
• Thanks to its external seal, the Brevida is more gentle on the skin, making it ideal for people with a sensitive nose.

The Brevida offers a particular advantage here, particularly for those with sensitive skin.

Assessment criterion 5: Noise level

Quiet masks not only help you to get a peaceful night’s sleep, but your partner, too.

• The AirFit P10 and AirFit P30i are both extremely quiet, with a sound level of 21 decibels. With the AirFit P30i, however, it is important to note that the air is fed in through the frame, which users with tinnitus in particular may find irritating.
• At 25 decibels, the Brevida is slightly louder, but is still pleasantly quiet thanks to the integrated diffuser.

ResMed remains top of the class when it comes to volume – in thanks in particular to the tried-and-tested QuietAir technology. The AirFit P10 and AirFit P30i come out in front, but the Brevida is close behind them.

Assessment criterion 6: User-friendliness & suitability for everyday use

Putting on, taking off, adjusting and cleaning – how well does the mask hold up in daily use?

• Thanks to its slip-on design, the AirFit P10 can be easily put on over the head, but does not have a quick-release fastener on the hose connection. Cleaning is simple and easy.
• The AirFit P30i also combines a slip-on design with a practical quick-release fastener for the CPAP hose on the head. It is also easy to clean. However, the hollow frame also needs to be cleaned, which can be rather more complicated.
• The Brevida has VisiBlue™ markings that make assembly and disassembly easier. The diffuser is also washable, making it particularly easy to look after.

The Brevida stands out thanks to thoughtful details such as VisiBlue and the adjustable strap. With its slip-on design and quick-release fastener, the AirFit P30i is particularly practical in everyday use. The AirFit P10 has a very simple design, the the limited adjustability and lack of a quick-release fastening are possible disadvantages.

Suitability for specific user types

Summary and reviews

The results of our customers’ reviews* are very close for all three masks (4.4 to 4.7 out of 5 stars).

Based on our test, the best mask in our opinion is the AirFit P30i – due above all to the high freedom of movement as a result of the over-head hose routing. The AirFit P10 remains a favourite for minimalists and people who are sensitive to noise. The Brevida wins points with its air cushion concept for sensitive noses, as well as for its ease of use.
