How do you optimally clean a mandibular advancement device (MAD)? Should special cleaning products be used for this purpose or will basic home cleaning product suffice?
You should clean your MAD with mild soap and lukewarm water. Alternatively, pour some mouthwash into a cup, submerge the MAD in the moutwash, and clean it with the aid of a toothbrush. Do not leave the MAD submerged longer than one minute. Subsequently, remove the MAD from the mouthwash and rinse it off with clean water.
For the ideal cleaning technique, you can use special cleaning tablets or gels (such as, BONYplus tablets oder die Curaprox-Reiniger). You can find these in the SomniShop.
Do not use toothpaste or standard denture cleaning agents to clean the MAD! The ingredients may damage the sensitive surface of the MAD.
