No more “snorer’s exile” – back in the same bed!

Snoring & sleep apnoea – explained simply

Snoring & sleep apnoea – explained simply

When someone snores, the tongue becomes slack and slides backwards into the throat when they’re sleeping on their back – this constricts the airways. The respiratory air has to push through this narrow passageway, which causes air turbulence that makes the tissue vibrate – and that’s the snoring noise.

With sleep apnoea, the airway is completely blocked. This causes breathing stops – sometimes lasting over a minute in length. The oxygen saturation decreases and the body responds with an alarm: the affected person startles, and their sleep is disturbed.

The result: they wake up exhausted despite having “slept”.

How somnipax guard helps with snoring and sleep apnoea

The solution is really simple: the airways must be kept clear.

The somnipax guard mouth guard does exactly that. When inserted in the mouth, it pushes the lower jaw slightly forwards. The throat tissue is put under tension, which keeps the tongue forwards and keeps the airways clear.

The result: the air can flow unimpeded again. Snoring stops and breathing stops noticeably reduce. You wake up rested and refreshed – as does your partner.

How somnipax guard helps with snoring and sleep apnoea

Finally a comfortable snoring mouth guard – thanks to Swiss engineering!

Finally a comfortable snoring mouth guard – thanks to Swiss engineering!

The principle and effectiveness of snoring mouth guards have been well known for decades – but they’ve often been uncomfortable. Too bulky, hard to adjust the protrusion, only one size – all of this led to an uncomfortable device, so many people wouldn’t use their mouth guards regularly.

Time for change: Swiss plastics engineer Jacques Magnin developed somnipax guard – the mouth guard that’s finally comfortable to use:

  • Ultra-flat thanks to highly stable, loadable high-tech plastic
  • Revolutionary band system for the individual adaptation of the protrusion once the mouth guard has been adjusted (bands available in 8 lengths)
  • Two mouth guard sizes – to fit almost any bite size

Summary: As comfortable as a mouth guard from the dentist – but much cheaper and ready to use immediately!

Application

Snoring can have a variety of causes. A lot of products such as nasal dilators or plasters are only effective if the snoring is caused by not taking in enough air through the nose. If these products do not work for you, you may be suffering from constricted airways in the throat area. The somnipax guard (standard / large) helps with precisely this issue. Constricted airways don't just occur when you're sleeping on your back; they can be position-dependent too. And the somnipax guard (standard / large) can help stop this type of snoring too. The anti-snoring mouth guard is therefore also a suitable option if the problem cannot be resolved by means of positional therapy (e.g. using an anti-snoring T-shirt, an anti-snoring rucksack or a special pillow). If your snoring is not down to reduced nasal breathing or constricted airways in the throat area, it could be caused by vibrating tissue in the palate area. This occurs as a result of breathing through an open mouth at night. In this case, you should consider an anti-snoring mouthpiece rather than the anti-snoring mouth guard. This is better suited to the prevention of vibrating tissue.

Instruction manual

The customisation of the mandibular advancement device is done in the comfort of your own home and is limited to a few simple steps: Heat up a water bath and wait for it to reach the ideal temperature (a thermometer is included to help measure the temperature). Then place the upper jaw section of the mouth guard into the hot water bath for three minutes. After three minutes, remove the mouth guard with a spoon, and shake off the water. Then place the mouth guard onto the upper dental arch, and press it securely into position using the bite plate. Please note: before inserting the mouth guard, always check that it is not too hot and that it will not burn your mouth! Repeat this process with the lower jaw section of the mouth guard. You can then attach one of the advancement bands to the two sections to adjust the advancement – the shorter the band, the larger the advancement.

You can repeat the adjustment process multiple times. To do so, the mouth guard should initially be warmed up just like for a normal adjustment process, and the previous imprints carefully levelled back out using the fingers. It can then be re-adjusted.

Here you will find detailed instructions for use of the somnipax guard (standard / large) MAD.
